About This Grant
In March, 2010, Colorado Springs’ School Districts 11, 14, 20 and 49 joined forces to submit a United States' Department of Education (USDE), Teaching American History (TAH) grant proposal. The USDE funded the grant in August, 2010.
The TAH Grant entitled, STORIES AND HISTORIES, has been fully funded for three years (2011 - 2014) with the potential of an additional two years (2015 and 2016).
-
Teachers from 4th grade through 12th grade who are responsible for the delivery of American history content in the partner districts can participate in an intensive content and standards-based program comprised of study-sessions during the academic year and a summer academy session.
-
The goals of the TAH program are to build a cadre of highly qualified teacher-leaders who have the content knowledge, pedagogical expertise and technology training to engage their students more effectively in the classroom.
-
Each year 40 teachers will participate in the program which combines innovative teaching techniques, the latest in historical interpretations, reading historical monographs and discussion with archival research and instruction in digital storytelling technology to improve teachers' body of content knowledge and instructional practice.
-
Instructors for the program are experts in history, innovative teaching techniques and the classroom application of technology.
